day 1: "i hope i'm wearing the right shoes"

A week ago today I was walking into my first day at work at TCU. What a whirlwind trip this has been! I already am in LOVE with my job. Head on over to my other blog (link to the right) to find out why. What do you think? Are these shoes okay for a first day?

v is for vista series: flying home

It's always hard to say goodbye. Here I am at the airport in Ft Worth waiting in a plane to Waco thinking about how ironic it is that I have an apartment in Ft Worth but I am not going there. I love that airports force us to just stop and take a break and make sense of our situations and experiences. May you always have long and thoughtful layovers... or really quick sleep filled direct flights.

v is for vista series: time to relax

Katie and I were in New Mexico for an extra day, so we convinced ourselves that we needed a pedicure. What a great time to be pampered after a long days of training and little sleep. We took the bu and walked through a few large parking lot to get these feet looking so good.

v is for vista series: hanging out

The best parts of PSO were the conversations that happened outside under the big umbrellas. Some many thoughtful, fun people to get to know in such little time. These feet saw more of these tables than the actual city. Good beer, good people, good times. Man, these feet are inspired to change the world.

v is for vista series: bff

I spent last week in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a Public Service Orientation before starting my year of service as an Americorps*VISTA. One of the first people I met there was Dyana who QUICKLY becam my BFF. I am sure ANYONE that knows this woman would agree that she is such a good time. She's one of those people who has to grab onto the table or wall b/c she laughs so intensely. That is so energizing for me. Thanks, Dyana, for being someone with whom it is so easy to be myself around.

how's this for some dancing shoes?

In June, my old roommate Sarah got married to great guy Myles. A good number of my friends came into town for the festivities and what a great time we had! These are some of those feet (mine in blue) getting ready to get on the dance floor. My plan was to get a shot of the happy couple's feet, but alas I was having too much fun to think about the blog once the dancing started. Happy Marriage, Martin(-)Werntz family and to everyone else out there trying to make it through this world together.

feet shod with some good news

I snagged this photo from a friend's blog because I just KNEW it belonged here. Susan and Freddy Wyatt went to church with me during my high school Baptist years. I can still remember word-for-word some great conversations I had with them way back when. They moved to New York to do some great ministry things that you can read about here. Also Susan is an AMAZING blogger, probably my favorite mommy blogger to date- I can always rely on her for great quick anecdotal parenting stories. This family is truly precious and daily makes me thankful for the ability to love them from afar.

i miss this lady's face...and feet.

These are the feet of my friend Cindy who I left behind in Jackson, TN. I really miss talking with her as I lay on her couch. Cindy lives in a house with her husband and a few 20 something single guys from her church. Her heart is truly a servant heart that longs for community and she always makes enough food for you to drop by unexpectantly. I know I can always count on her to have an honest conversation with me, tell me something good about myself that I didn't know, and the wear socks with her sandals.

home depot always changes my life.

So next time you need to do a little home repairs, here is my suggestion: Go to the hardware store of your choice, get the things you need and then just hang around for a few minutes checking out all the many things you can buy in these warehouses. Sunday I learned that you can make your own carpet runner! Anneka and I found these carpets on a roll and told the guy we wanted 13 ft and he cut it for us at $1.40 a foot. How do you finish off the edges, you ask? Well, for 6 bucks you can buy a package of two strips that adhere to the edges and match the side edges perfectly. Here's my foot feet testing out the new runner Anneka and I made for the ESC. Can you tell which edge we did?

"the only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for the steak to cook"

Last week, boyfriend and I went to see Julie and Julia. My stomach was nervous both with excitement about the movie and nervousness that someone would sit in front of me (thus eliminating my foot rest). Well, let me tell you- no one sat in front of me and the movie was perfect. I have always thought Julia was wonderfully approachable and jovial and clearly I LOVE blogs, so this mash up was delightfully stress free. I was inspired to buy Julia's DVD's, but alas I have no money. The film is a great story of finding out what you love to do and doing it. May we all be granted with the time, means, and motivation to discover what we love and to do it.

change the floor, change your world...

J.T. (aka Boyfriend) pulled up the carpet in the bathroom at the Canterbury House and spent all evening Sunday putting down new flooring. He has never done anything like that before so there were a few hiccups, but all in all- he was pretty amazing. The carpet in there was unmentionable and the floor underneath was pretty ugly, so this floor really changes things. I hope J.T. feels accomplished, because I know the students new and old really appreciate his work.

with feet this cute, who needs zee baby booties?

My friend Holly sent in this pictures of her beautiful daughters' feet. The first is Stella's feet at 6 hours old. She gets more and more precious every day. Next is her older sister Margot's feet at 7 days. I love me some Margot and I am really sad that I won't be getting to see these little girls as often as I would like. Thanks Holly for blog-stalking me and I hope you start a blog soon!

i moo-ed to cow town and so did my feet.

I just moved into a new apartment in Benbrook, TX (right outside of Ft. Worth). I have a new bed and dresser, and huge closet, and two doors to my bathroom. These are my tired feet after unpacking and moving those boxes (that I NEED to unpack) out of the way for some other pictures. Head on over to my other blog and read more about the move and see pictures of the rest of the apartment!

"two hours of pushing broom..."

"...Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room*"

Well, in my case it was a 10 by 10 by 10 room...and it definitely only took a few minutes to sweep out the empty storage unit that held my every belonging for the past year. It was kinda sad to say goodbye to Scott Self Storage...the unit and Mr. Scott himself had been so good to me. Now all I have left is a lock...heavy duty to boot and nothing to put it on...oh and I LOT of stuff that I didn't even remember I had.

*If you know the song I'm referencing, leave a comment.

there is a spa on that ranch?

Today my friend, A.S., from church took me to the spa for a pedicure. It is always fun to hang out with her and who doesn't LOVE a pedicure! We went to this ranch-like spa and discovered that they give complimentary beverages, so we enjoyed a glass of wine and laughed about her son's birthday party yesterday. (Star Wars themed complete with death Star piƱata and storm trooper cupcakes) When I got home I realized that my Cabana Banana nail polish and green flops matched the plants my my front door. What a fun day and early birthday present! Thank you, A.S, and btw, "You are such a kabuki queen."

and boom goes the fireworks

Tiffani is at it again! She says, these are "My two feet (along with Heather's and Dave's) waiting for the Huntington Beach Fireworks." I'm sure Tiff had a great time. I know it was too hot in Texas for blankets at the fireworks. The boyfriend and I watched them inside a very tall (and air conditioned)building. We got to see fireworks all over the city.

What have you been doing to pass your time this July?

summer is a time for swimming

Here's one from my old college friend, Josh. He has this really great friend that lets him crash their apartment complex pool pretty regularly and this is the view from area of relaxation. The Texas heat makes me wish I was there taking a dip, but my memories of Josh's hilarious demeanor and kind personality makes me want to be there more. Don't YOU want to be friend?

Thanks Josh, for the photo!

exercise does not seem to be "working out."

I've laced up some second hand sneakers and started the path to weight loss again. It's been about four weeks of strength training, cardio, and healthy eating and I have yet to see results, but I press on- with some adjustments. These are my feet, post workout, as I reflect on some things my "trainer" said today that makes me want to quit. Good thing I am not in it for him.

You may have noticed that I am back on my own two feet. I I have found myself a job! So, I am free to get up the little side projects in my life. In honor of my return to work, I would love for you to send photo of your feet at work. Look to the right for details.

Smell ya later!
